The Nero d'Avola "Nero di Lupo" from the Sicilian winery Cos is a wine with a typically artisanal character, expressing clearly and directly the best varietal characteristics of this extraordinary indigenous grape from the southeastern area of Sicily. The choice of vinification only in cement preserves the most authentic personality of the grape, expressing the fragrant aromas of a rich, fleshy fruit and a pleasant freshness. It is a harmonious red, with a smooth and agile sip, particularly versatile in gastronomic pairings with flavorful first courses of Sicilian cuisine or with meats cooked simply and quickly.
The "Nero di Lupo" Nero d'Avola is born in one of the most important wineries in the Ragusa area. Cos cultivates about thirty hectares near Chiaramonte, in the province of Vittoria. The dry and sunny climate and the predominantly calcareous and sandy soils, with the presence of clays and tuffs, are perfect for Nero d'Avola, which expresses itself at the highest qualitative levels in this corner of Sicily. The vineyards are located at about 250 meters above sea level, in a varied landscape rich in biodiversity, characterized by the presence of olive, carob, and almond trees. This is a reality that has been able to build a strong identity thanks to precise choices and a very coherent wine philosophy. The vineyards are managed following the principles of biodynamics, with the utmost respect for the surrounding environment. The vinifications are conducted with minimal oenological intervention, favoring inert materials such as cement or dolium in terracotta, to preserve and enhance the varietal characteristics and aromas of grapes of excellent quality.
The wine "Nero di Lupo" from Cos is a unique wine with a strong personality. It is the result of a production philosophy aimed at always bringing to the forefront the grapes and the authentic flavor of the lands of Ragusa, without mediations or compromises. The Nero d'Avola vineyards are cultivated on red soils of sand and limestone, which naturally limit the yields, favoring the production of few bunches with intense aromas. The fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in cement tanks. The wine rests for 12 months in cement before bottling. It presents a ruby red color with youthful purple reflections. On the nose, it expresses aromas of red fruits, hints of watermelon, elegant nuances of cocoa, leather, and coffee. On the palate, it has a lively and brisk attack, with a crunchy fruit and fine tannins. The finish is fresh and has good taste persistence. A great Nero d'Avola, original and faithful expression of the territory.| Foundation Year | 1980 |
