The "Bariliott" by Paternoster is a Aglianico del Vulture with a fresh and fruity character, matured partly in steel and partly in wood. On the nose, it reveals notes of cherry, plum, berries, mineral sensations, and light spicy touches. The palate expresses itself as juicy and smooth, with a nice tannic grip and a marked savory note.
The “Bariliott” is a fresh and immediate version of Aglianico del Vulture, a wine that has always been symbolic for the Lucanian winery Paternoster. The development of this label stems from the idea of conveying the varietal characteristics of the most iconic grape of Basilicata through a young and fragrant profile that can serve as a first business card of the Monte Vulture territory, an extinct volcano on whose slopes the vines have dwelled for centuries. The name “Bariliott”, meaning from Barile, is dedicated to the hometown of the Paternoster family, one of the most esteemed and important wineries in Southern Italy that has contributed over the centuries to the revival of wine from Basilicata.
The grapes for the Aglianico del Vulture “Bariliott” come from young vines of about 6-8 years rooted in the volcanic soils of the area and trained in Guyot according to organic methods, favoring a low yield. The winemaking follows the classic procedures for red wine. The best grapes are selected and destemmed, followed by alcoholic fermentation in steel at constant temperature with maceration of 12-15 days. This is followed by malolactic fermentation in steel and in Slavonian oak barrels (50%), where the wine remains for another 12 months. Finally, an additional aging in bottle for 6 months completes the production cycle.
The “Bariliott” Aglianico del Vulture is a red wine with a juicy and simple character, designed to accompany the entire meal daily. It reveals itself in the glass with a bright and luminous ruby red color, with lively violet hues. On the nose, a typical fruity note emerges reminiscent of cherry, sour cherry, plum, and berries, accompanied by a slight finish with spicy tones. The sip is fragrant and agile, with a clear freshness, excellent minerality, and an appreciable tannic structure. A fresh interpretation of the Vulture!
