APPIUS SAN MICHELE APPIANO 2021 DESCRIPTION

Appius is the name that the San Michele Appiano winery gives to a blend of excellent white grapes, the "wine of dreams", as defined by Hans Terzer, the winery's winemaker who created this label for the first time in 2010. Today, now in its fourth vintage, Appius remains true to Hans's principles, presenting itself to the nose and palate as a meticulous and complex product, capable of evoking emotions now as well as in a few years. A precious bottle, to be savored until the last drop.

This Appius is born from a blend of white grapes that, in Alto Adige, find a fertile terroir for growth, Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon. The vines of these four varieties are between 25 and 35 years old, and grow in vineyards exposed to the southeast and southwest, within a subsoil characterized by the presence of limestone. The grapes, once harvested and brought to the winemaking facilities of the San Michele Appiano winery, ferment in barriques, remaining in contact with the yeasts and also undergoing malolactic fermentation. The aging process, which lasts for one year, also takes place in wood and on the lees; after bottling, before being released on the market, the wine matures for 36 months in steel.

The white wine Appius reveals itself visually with a bright, luminous straw-yellow color. The array of aromas enveloping the nose moves on notes of tropical fruit, from which emerge light sensations of sweet spices, deriving from the maturation period spent in wood. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, silky and enveloping, with a full sip, characterized by a pleasant mineral and fresh vein. An elegant and refined label, a special edition in which the San Michele Appiano winery includes the best of the vintage spent in the vineyard, achieving awards and excellent scores, elevating Appius among the best white wines of all Alto Adige.
