Beaujolais 'La Platiere' Domaine Chasselay 2023

The Beaujolais "La Platiere" from Domaine Chasselay is the winery's cuvée de garde, a fine and complex Beaujolais. It is produced with grapes harvested from the lieu-dit of the same name, a clayey area that gives it a surprising structure for a Beaujolais. Fine but present tannins, balanced by a balanced palate that is both warm and fresh. On the nose, aromas of wild berries and pomegranate play with hints of sweet spices and a delicate earthy scent that adds complexity. The palate is silky and fragrant, the attack is shy but, with a little patience, this red reveals finesse and elegance

BEAUJOLAIS 'LA PLATIERE' DOMAINE CHASSELAY 2023 DESCRIPTION

Beaujolais 'La Platiere' is a pure Gamay with a light and caressing taste, produced by Domaine Chasselay using sustainable agricultural and winemaking practices. The grapes used to make this wine come from the lieu-dit of 'La Platière', a term that refers to flat land at the foot of a hill. Like the entire vineyard area of the Domaine, this plot is also certified organic, reflecting the estate's great attention to the health of the environment. Furthermore, sulphites are not used during the entire winemaking process and are only added during bottling if necessary.

Domaine Chasselay Beaujolais 'La Platiere' is produced exclusively from Gamay grapes grown in accordance with certified organic farming principles on clay-limestone soils. The vines have an average age of 55 years and, due to their advanced age and high planting density, naturally produce very low yields. After harvesting, 80% of the whole bunches are pressed in stainless steel tanks where spontaneous alcoholic fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature and in contact with the skins. The subsequent ageing phase takes place in oak barrels on fine lees for 12 months, and the wine is finally bottled without undergoing any clarification or filtration.

The colour of Domaine Chasselay's Beaujolais 'La Platiere' is ruby red with violet reflections. The nose reveals intense fruity aromas of blackberry, raspberry and pomegranate, supported by earthy hints and spicy notes of vanilla and cinnamon. The palate is silky and enveloping, with soft tannins, good freshness and a fragrant finish. Like most Beaujolais wines, this Gamay is best served chilled, perhaps paired with a selection of cheeses.

When to open
To enjoy an artisanal wine at its best, we recommend you to let it 'breathe' at least 15-30 minutes before serving
When to drink
Wine good to drink now, but that can have a beautiful evolution after resting for a while in your cellar
Glass
Medium open goblet
Perfect for young and medium bodied red wines which don't require excessive oxygenation to open. The opening, slightly tighter than the body of the glass, favors the concentration of aromas towards the nose, enhancing the perception of aromas and limiting the dispersion
Longevity
You can leave it to rest in the cellar for 4-5 years
