The 'Prenhite' from the Apulian winery Vespa Vignaioli is a white wine characterised by rich and fragrant aromas, distinctive traits of Verdeca and Sémillon, the two varieties at the base of the blend. Home of the winery is Masseria Li Reni, a beautiful estate that the well-known television journalist Bruno Vespa acquired in 2008, dedicating himself to its modern renovation and inaugurating the business only six years later, in 2014. For the technical side, the Vespa family then relies on the advice of the famous oenologist Riccardo Cotarella, a point of reference for many Italian wineries.
Vespa 'Prenhite' is made from a solid base of the indigenous Apulian grape variety Verdeca, combined with 10% Sémillon. The vines are grown in the area of Lizzano, in Manduria, at an altitude of 100 metres above sea level, on clay soils for the Verdeca and sandy soils for the Sémillon. During the month of September, the grapes are harvested by hand, in a period differentiated according to the variety, with the bunches first undergoing a 6-hour cryomaceration process at a temperature of 8 °C, in order to enhance the aromatic heritage of the grapes. This is followed by soft pressing and then alcoholic fermentation of the must in stainless steel tanks at a temperature of 12 °C, without subsequent malolactic fermentation. Also in stainless steel, the wine matures for a period of 5 months on the noble lees.
Vespa Vignaioli's 'Prenhite' white wine has a bright, brilliant straw yellow hue. The aromatic bouquet expresses fragrant and rich scents of citrus fruits such as lime and yellow fruits such as apple and peach, enhanced by hints of Mediterranean scrub and lavender. The good structure of the sip is well supported by the marked freshness in a development of great intensity and pleasant persistence.
