BOLGHERI ROSSO 'CONT'UGO' GUADO AL TASSO - ANTINORI 2023 DESCRIPTION

Bolgheri Rosso "Cont'Ugo" was born on the Guado al Tasso estate, the Bolgheri property of Antinori, one of the families that have contributed most to the history of Italian wine since the 14th century. In keeping with the custom of a terroir particularly suited to the cultivation of international grapes, this is a pure Merlot made in perfect Bordeaux style, harking back to the great models of Pomerol and Sant-Émilion. A red wine of remarkable structure and richness, relying above all on the harmonious, soft and fruity characteristics of the famous French grape variety. An excellence of the land of Bolgheri, absolutely to try with some grilled meat, roasts or spit-roasted game.

"Cont'Ugo" Bolgheri Rosso is the fruit of Antinori's desire to expand the horizon of its properties towards the area of the Tuscan Coast and in particular in the lands of Bolgheri. If the historic Chianti area is the land of Sangiovese, the Tuscan coast, with its mild, sunny climate always cooled by sea breezes, its soils composed of silt, sand and clay, is the realm of great French grapes. Here Merlot has found its ideal habitat, and the vines bring to maturity grapes of extraordinary aromatic richness. The best bunches are hand-picked and then sent to fermentation in stainless steel tanks with maceration on the skins for about 25 days. The wine matures in French oak barrels for 12 months and completes aging with 10 months in the bottle.

The Bolgheri Rosso wine "Cont'Ugo" from Antinori's Tenuta Guado al Tasso is a great Merlot, perfectly expressing the varietal characteristics of the grape, declined according to the pedoclimatic specificities of the terroir of the Tuscan Coast. In the glass it has a rather dark ruby red color. The olfactory profile is broad and rich, with aromas of wild blackberry, blueberry, blackcurrant, nuances of berry jam, vanilla, delicately spicy hints, balsamic notes and aromatic herbs of the Mediterranean maquis. The palate is enveloping, soft and persuasive, with velvety tannins, ripe, dense fruit and a long, lingering, harmonious finish.
