CHAMPAGNE EXTRA BRUT 'ORIGINALE' PATRICE GUAY 2018 DESCRIPTION

Through its fresh and refined minerality, the Champagne ‘Originale’ Extra Brut from the producer Récoltant Manipulant Patrice Guay effectively expresses the qualities of Chardonnay in Champagne. Although this noble grape variety is not very widespread in the Vallée de la Marne, an area where the Guay family has been operating for generations, Patrice boldly chose to vinify it in purity to showcase the potential of the variety even in its territory. To demonstrate how much the winemaker believes in Chardonnay, approximately 25% of the 7 hectares of owned vineyards are reserved for this grape, second only to Meunier in terms of vineyard area of the estate.

Patrice Guay Champagne Extra Brut ‘Originale’ originates from only Chardonnay grapes grown within a single plot planted on clay and limestone soils. The agronomic management is aimed at safeguarding the health of the environment, particularly through practices regulated by the certifications “Haute Valeur Environnementale” (High Environmental Value) and “Viticulture Durable en Champagne” (Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne). After the manual harvest of the bunches, they undergo soft pressing, with the resulting must fermenting in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The subsequent sparkling process occurs in the bottle according to the prestigious Méthode Champenoise, with a long aging on the lees in glass. The Champagne is finally dosed Extra Brut.

Patrice Guay’s Extra Brut ‘Originale’ Champagne has a straw yellow color with brilliant golden hues and fine effervescence. The aromatic spectrum is very fine and rich, defined by hints of exotic fruit, citrus peel, white flowers, and bread crust that meet mineral notes. Fresh and at the same time round is the taste, characterized by a lively mineral vein that persists for a long time.
