The Chardonnay from the Marco Felluga winery is a intense, fresh, and expressive white wine produced in Gradisca d’Isonzo, in the province of Gorizia, in Friuli Venezia Giulia. This white is made from pure Chardonnay grapes sourced from vineyards located in the Collio area between the municipalities of Farra d’Isonzo, San Floriano, and Cormons, situated at altitudes ranging from 80 to 250 meters. The vines, which are of different ages, are trained using the espalier method and Guyot pruning on Eocene soils characterized by an alternation of marl-silty-clay soils and sandstones. The winery is a prestigious reality in Collio, carrying on the tradition of a dynasty of winemakers, founded in 1956 by Marco Felluga and today continued with great passion, attention, and expertise by his son Roberto.
The Chardonnay from Marco Felluga is produced with carefully selected grapes that are hand-picked generally between the end of August and the beginning of September. The bunches, brought to the winery, are destemmed and then undergo a cold maceration on the skins for a few hours before soft pressing. The fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at low temperatures for several weeks, before proceeding to the aging of the wine, which remains for at least 6 months in stainless steel containers to preserve all the freshness and aromas of the varietal, before being bottled and ready for commercialization.
The Marco Felluga Chardonnay presents itself with a bright straw yellow color with slight golden reflections. On the nose, intense aromas of yellow fruit, tropical fruit, and citrus appear, including peach, apple, pineapple, mango, and orange peel, floral notes of white flowers and aromatic herbs. On the palate, it is vibrant, fresh, juicy, and enveloping, characterized by a nice sapidity and a mineral touch that makes it pleasant to drink. This Chardonnay from the Marco Felluga winery is a harmonious and balanced white that well expresses the characteristics of the varietal and the Friulian terroir from which it comes.
