The Chianti Classico 'Casa di Colombo' of the biodynamic Tenuta La Novella represents an interpretation of the Greve in Chianti territory played on the balance and purity of the fruit. The modern history of Tenuta La Novella, whose property is built around a 14th-century monastery, began in 1996, when François Schneider bought the estate, which at the time was in a state of neglect. It took 10 years to restore the estate to its former glory, and thanks to François' ambitious project, today Tenuta La Novella is a true gem set in the Chianti Classico region.
The 'Casa di Colombo' Tenuta La Novella Chianti Classico is a 100% Sangiovese from vines of an average of 20 years of age grown in accordance with the dictates of organic and biodynamic agriculture, both certified. The altitude of the vineyards reaches 500 metres above sea level while the soils are rich in sandstone. The grapes are harvested by hand with careful selection of the bunches, which are then transferred to the cellar where alcoholic fermentation takes place spontaneously, with the aid of the pied de cuve, in stainless steel tanks in contact with the skins for 15-20 days. Once malolactic fermentation has also taken place, the wine is racked into 30-hectolitre oak casks for the long 18-month ageing that precedes the final bottling. Clarification operations are then excluded throughout the production process.
Tenuta La Novella's 'Casa di Colombo' Chianti Classico has an intense ruby red colour. The nose has aromas of wild berries such as blackberry and delicate hints of orange peel, all supported by fine spicy and floral notes. Fresh and balanced taste development, characterised by an enveloping tannic texture that anticipates the savoury and persistent epilogue.
