The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione “San Lorenzo” from Castello di Ama is the highest expression of Sangiovese, integrated with a small percentage of Merlot and Malvasia Nera, from one of the most prestigious and famous estates in Tuscany. The label takes its name from the birthplace, the beautiful valley where the historic vineyards are cultivated, which have always produced superior quality grapes. Thus, a wine is born that is elegant, aromatically intense, complex, and of extraordinary longevity. A bottle of great value to be enjoyed among connoisseurs.
The “San Lorenzo” is a Chianti Classico Gran Selezione that originates in the area of Gaiole in Chianti. The Castello di Ama estate is located in a wonderful hilly area at about 500 meters above sea level and produces a range of labels of the highest qualitative level. The wine is the result of blending the best parcels, cultivated with old vines located in the areas of Bellavista, Casuccia, San Lorenzo, and Montebuoni. The grapes of Sangiovese, Merlot, and Malvasia are hand-harvested between the end of September and the beginning of October, and after a selection, the best bunches are vinified separately by variety. The fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at around 30 °C, with a maceration on the skins of about a month and periodic manual pump-overs. The wine matures for a period of 14 months in fine-grained French oak barriques, new for 22%, and concludes the long aging period with another 24 months in bottle.
The Gran Selezione “San Lorenzo” is the most prestigious version of Chianti Classico produced by the famous Castello di Ama estate. A red that enhances the character of a great terroir and the experience of a top-level winery. Visually, it presents a bright ruby red with subtle garnet reflections. The olfactory profile is elegant and intense, with floral scents of violet, aromas of ripe cherry, red currant, marasca, hints of undergrowth, leather, blonde tobacco, vanilla, and soft spices. With good structure, it has a dense and well-integrated tannic texture with generous and ripe fruit, which gives a deep and complex sip. The finish is harmonious, fresh, and very persistent.
