CHIANTI CLASSICO GRAN SELEZIONE 'VIGNA DEL SORBO' FONTODI 2021 DESCRIPTION

The red Chianti Classico Gran Selezione "Vigna del Sorbo" is a wine that, from the small village of Panzano in Chianti, where Fontodi is based, has reached the top of the main national and international wine guides. In fact, one can hardly count the awards and recognitions that this label reaps every year, confirming the winery as one of the reference realities for the production of DOCG Chianti Classico, here declined in the Gran Selezione version, and therefore subject to even more stringent and rigorous production standards. A complex bottle with layered aromas, which taste after taste, thanks also to the marked alcohol content, awakens all the senses. Simply magnificent.

This Chianti Classico Gran Selezione "Vigna del Sorbo" comes from an accurate blend made by Fontodi. Alongside 90% Sangiovese, the absolute protagonist of Tuscany's terroir, we also find 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, an international that has amply demonstrated that it can achieve excellent levels of quality within regional boundaries. The grapes, which grow on 40-year-old plants in vineyards facing southwest, once harvested and brought to the winemaking rooms, ferment thanks to the presence of indigenous yeasts in stainless steel containers spontaneously, macerating at a controlled temperature for 3 weeks. Then comes the ageing phase, in which the wine rests, for 24 months, in 50% new Troncais and Allier barriques.

The "Vigna del Sorbo" Chianti Classico Gran Selezione announces itself to the eye with a bright ruby red colour, crossed by more garnet-red flashes in the rim. The nose teems with well-orchestrated scents, in which fruit and spice notes are traced, from which a hint of violet also emerges. On the palate, it is very full-bodied, warm and penetrating, with a sip marked by a savoury and mineral taste; it closes with a remarkably persistent finish. A bottle with which the Fondodi winery succeeds in exalting both the grape varieties used within the blend and the territory of origin in a combination that is guaranteed of absolute quality.
