CHIANTI CLASSICO RISERVA 'BERARDENGA' FELSINA 2022 DESCRIPTION

The “Berardenga” Chianti Classico Riserva by Felsina is a true homage to tradition. It is indeed a red wine produced from only Sangiovese grapes, a variety that has been the subject of love and study by the Felsina winery. The vineyards used are located in Castelnuovo Berardenga, from which the wine takes its name, northeast of Siena. Felsina is primarily about heterogeneity, a varied world of different soils, microclimates, altitudes, grape varieties, and related clones of a single variety. Since 1983, the winery has been engaged in a constant activity of research and selection of the existing biotypes, in order to obtain the best and most diversified vine/terroir ratios, a key binomial of winemaking activity.

The Sangiovese grapes are the undisputed protagonists of the Chianti Classico Riserva “Berardenga”. They are harvested at different times during the harvest, based on the different altitude of the various vineyards. Regardless of the harvest time, all the bunches are subject to careful selection. Crushing and destemming that originate the must which undergoes alcoholic fermentation and maceration in stainless steel tanks. Between March and April, the wine is transferred into barriques of French oak and into medium-sized Slavonian oak barrels. In these wooden containers, the wine ages for a variable time between 12 and 16 months. At the end of the aging period, the various batches of wine, which have remained separate until this moment based on the vineyard of origin, are blended to create the most expressive cut of Sangiovese. Once bottled, the wine waits another 3-6 months before being put on the market.

“Berardenga” is a Riserva Chianti Classico with an intense ruby red color. The aroma opens the dance with fruity aromas and spicy notes, which then give way to darker tones of underbrush and graphite. On the palate, the fruity character re-emerges, completed by a soft and enveloping tannin. Alcohol and structure are well present, but balanced by a nice and lively freshness. A wine born to amaze, now as for many years to come.
