CHIANTI CLASSICO RISERVA 'IL POGGIALE' CASTELLARE DI CASTELLINA 2022 DESCRIPTION

The Chianti Classico Riserva “Il Poggiale” from the Castellare di Castellina winery is an elegant and complex red wine produced in Castellina in Chianti, in the province of Siena, in Tuscany. A pleasant expression obtained from a blend of grapes where Sangiovese, present almost in purity, combines with small percentages of native grapes such as Canaiolo and Ciliegiolo. The vines, which have an average age of about 25 years, are trained using the espalier method with inverted guyot pruning, on beautiful hills located between 350 and 400 meters above sea level and characterized by soils that are predominantly calcareous. The winery is a historic family-run business that was founded in the 1970s by the passion and intuition of Paolo Panerai, who decided to focus on enhancing native grape varieties to produce great wines while respecting the Chianti Classico territory.

“Il Poggiale” Chianti Classico Riserva from Castellare di Castellina is produced with carefully selected grapes that are hand-picked around mid-October. The bunches, brought to the winery, they are destemmed and gently pressed, followed by alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel containers with frequent daily pump-overs and a maceration on the skins of about two weeks. Subsequently, the wine is racked with pressing of the skins, after which it remains in aging in French oak barriques for a period of at least 12-18 months before being bottled and continuing its maturation in the bottle for an additional 12 months before being released.

The Chianti Classico Riserva “Il Poggiale” by Castellare di Castellina presents itself with a bright ruby red color. On the nose, intense aromas of ripe red fruit and berries appear, including cherry, sour cherry, raspberry, and currant, floral notes of violet, spicy hints of sweet spices, including vanilla, and then shifting to slight mineral hints. On the palate, it is sharp, intense and enveloping, characterized by a pleasant freshness and a present and well-integrated tannin. This wine from the Castellare di Castellina winery is a fine and well-made red that offers harmony.sip after sip.
