CROZES-HERMITAGE 'LES MACHONNIERES' MAGNUM DOMAINE DES ENTREFAUX 2023 DESCRIPTION

Crozes-Hermitage Rouge 'Les Machonnières' is the flagship wine of the Domaine des Entrefaux artisan winery, a robust Syrah produced from a selection of the oldest vines. Following a traditional and authentic approach, this Northern Rhône estate produces wines at the top of the Crozes-Hermitage AOC quality scale. Suffice it to say that many of the grapes grown by the Tardy family, who founded the estate in 1979, were sold to important négociants such as Guigal, a historic name in French winemaking.

Les Machonnières Crozes-Hermitage Rouge Domaine des Entrefaux is made exclusively from Syrah grapes grown in the municipalities of Beaumont-Monteux and Mercurol-Veaunes. This is where the Domaine's oldest vines are located, ranging in age from 50 to 70 years old, rooted in clay-limestone soils originating from the Alpine flood. The vineyards are certified organic and the grapes are harvested by hand when they have reached optimal ripeness. The bunches are then destemmed and pressed in wooden vats for spontaneous alcoholic fermentation using only indigenous yeasts, for a total duration of 4 weeks. The subsequent ageing phase, which lasts 12-18 months, takes place in first, second and third passage oak barrels.

In the glass, the Crozes-Hermitage Rouge 'Les Machonnières' from Domaine des Entrefaux displays a dark ruby red colour. The nose offers elegant and intense aromas of wild berries such as strawberry, cherry and blackberry, combined with characteristic hints of black pepper, olive paste and sweet spices. The palate is juicy, full-bodied and balanced, characterised by soft tannins and a long finish that echoes the aromas.
