The beautiful label of “Sul Vulcano” Donnafugata already describes at a glance the white it contains: a goddess-volcano with its intense colors, the reds, yellows, and shimmering blacks, are those of the highest active volcano in Europe. An ancient, powerful, and feminine divinity: “the Mountain” as the locals call Etna. Sweetness and strength, sea and rock: two unions that strongly characterize all of Donnafugata's production in Sicily, but even more so when it comes to the vineyards on the slopes of Etna, which extend for 21 hectares. Bottles that have now become almost an icon, not only for their artistic uniqueness with bright and sunny pastel colors but also for their undisputed quality.
Donnafugata Etna Bianco “Sul Vulcano” is a pure Carricante. The vines are located on the northern slope of Etna, between Randazzo and Castiglione di Sicilia, at around 750 meters above sea level, where the lava soil is rich in minerals and the strong temperature variations favor high-quality grapes.quality. During the manual harvest, a thorough selection of the grapes is carried out in the vineyard, then placed in crates. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at a controlled temperature between 14°C and 16°C, while aging occurs partly in steel and partly in French oak barriques and in bottle for at least 9 months before commercialization.
"On the Volcano" Etna Bianco by Donnafugata has the warmth of intense straw yellow with golden reflections. On the nose, there are hints of golden apple and citrus, a direct reference to the island of southern Italy, with sweet tones of honey. The bouquet is elegant and refined, with smoky touches and flint that bring the mind back to Etna. On the palate, it reveals freshness and depth, with a remarkable mineral and savory charge, in excellent balance leading to notable persistence. It is an elegant, dynamic, and enchanting wine, full of strong emotions from the colors of the sun and the black volcanic earth. An explosion of passion in a sinuous and velvety body, just like the woman on the label.
