The Etna Rosso 'Fermata 125' from the Baglio di Pianetto winery is a pure Nerello Mascalese that stands out for its savory and mineral taste, an authentic reflection of the uniqueness of the Etna territory. The name of this label comes from the historic stop 125 of the Circumetnea railway, inaugurated in 1895 to connect Catania to Riposto by circling around Mount Etna. In particular, the vineyards from which the grapes come are located in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia, on the north side of the volcano, considered the most prestigious and suitable area for the cultivation of Nerello Mascalese.
'Fermata 125' Baglio di Pianetto Etna Rosso is a 100% Nerello Mascalese from vines cultivated under certified organic regime on sandy volcanic soils, located at an altitude between 750 and 800 meters above sea level. After the harvest, the clusters are red vinified through alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature, accompanied by a variable period of contact between the must and the skins. Once the fermentation process is complete, the mass is transferred to oak barrels for aging for 12 months, followed by a brief rest in stainless steel before final bottling.
The Baglio di Pianetto Etna Rosso 'Fermata 125' has a light and bright ruby red color. The interesting olfactory range consists of aromas of wild strawberries, raspberry, and nectarine peach, surrounded by hints of sweet spices and pleasant sensations of coriander seeds and graphite. The taste is very savory and appetizing, with well-integrated tannins that give strength to the softness and herald the mineral finish of great persistence. The ideal pairing for this Etna Rosso is boards of assorted cold cuts and cheeses or first and second courses based on meat.
