ETNA ROSSO 'FRAGORE - CONTRADA MONTELAGUARDIA' DONNAFUGATA 2021 DESCRIPTION

The Etna Rosso "Fragore - Contrada Montelaguardia" is one of the most prestigious labels of the Icon Wines Collection from the Sicilian winery Donnafugata. It originates from the eponymous cru on the northern slope of the volcano and is made exclusively from Nerello Mascalese grapes, the red grape variety that has always been cultivated on the slopes of Mongibello. The unique climate of Etna and the volcanic soils give the wine a particularly elegant and refined profile. The long aging in wood enhances its aromatic complexity, offering a sip of great charm, deep and persistent.

“Fragore” Donnafugata is an important version of Etna Rosso, ranking among the best excellences of the area. The Donnafugata winery has four estates and a historic cellar in different territories of the island and has played a decisive role in the rebirth of Sicilian wine, with a philosophy focused on enhancing quality and territorial typicity, with particular attention to indigenous grape varieties. The vineyards are cultivated in the the area of Randazzo, in Contrada Montelaguardia, at an altitude of about 750 meters above sea level, on lava soils composed of volcanic sands rich in minerals. At the end of the manual harvest, with selection of the grapes in the vineyard, fermentation takes place in steel, with maceration on the skins for about a dozen days at a temperature of 25 °C. The wine matures for 14 months in second or third passage French oak barriques and completes the aging process with at least 10 months in the bottle.

The Etna Rosso "Fragore" from the famous Sicilian winery Donnafugata is a valuable bottle that perfectly expresses the union between the magnificent terroir of Etna and the indigenous grape variety Nerello Mascalese. Thus, a wine with a strong personality is born, which well represents the character of Etna, with a bright ruby red color, floral scents, Mediterranean scrub aromas, hints of berries, spicy notes, and nuances of graphite. Elegant and smooth, it seduces the palate with a very harmonious and complex sip, characterized by dense tannins. The finish closes on fresh, balsamic, and mineral sensations. To be enjoyed on a special evening among connoisseurs.
