The Friulano by Livio Felluga is the label of tradition, dedicated to the wine that has made history in the region. Once known by the name Tocai, it is produced with the Bordeaux grape Sauvignonasse, imported to Friuli during the nineteenth century and which has found in these lands the ideal habitat to express itself at excellent quality levels. The mild and breezy climate, with almost Mediterranean summers and highly suited soils, allow for the production of ripe and rich grapes, which give a harmonious and soft white, particularly versatile for food pairings.
The Friulano white is born in one of the most famous wineries in the region. Livio Felluga has played a decisive role in enhancing Friulian viticulture, aiming to produce great whites, intense, rich, and long-lived. The grapes for Friulano come from vineyards cultivated in the beautiful area of the Colli Orientali, towards the Slovenian border, on soils made up of marls and sandstones of ancient oceanic origin, known in Friuli as ponca. The manual harvest takes place generally in the second half of September. The bunches are destemmed and the grapes are cold macerated for a short period before proceeding to soft pressing. The must ferments in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature. The wine matures for six months in steel tanks on the fine lees, in order to acquire body and greater aromatic complexity.
The Friulano wine by Livio Felluga is a splendid version of a great wine from the Friulian popular tradition. It is the bottle that could never be missing from the table and that has contributed to making known the whites of this slice of land, located at the extreme eastern border of our peninsula. In the glass, it presents a light yellow color with bright golden reflections. The olfactory profile is rich and intense, with aromas of citrus, floral nuances, aromas of yellow-fleshed fruit, peach, apricot, and soft hints of tropical fruit. On the palate, it has a good structure, with a rich and enveloping sip, which unfolds harmoniously and persistently towards a finish of balanced freshness, characterized by a pleasant almond note.
