Tiefenbrunner's Gewürztraminer "Turmhof" is a South Tyrolean wine and originates precisely in Cortaccia on the Strada del Vino in the province of Bolzano. The winery has been run by the Tiefenbrunner family since the early twentieth century: tradition and a commitment to enhancing territorial characteristics are the pivotal concepts on which the work in the cellar and vineyard is based on a daily basis. The "Linticlar" estate that houses the winery dates back to the 1200s, and in 1848 it was entered in the commercial records as one of the oldest wineries in South Tyrol. In 1968 the refreshment facility was opened, and since the 2000s, production has been consolidated and expanded, reaching international markets and always looking to the future and environmental sustainability.
The vineyards of Tiefenbrunner's Gewürztraminer "Turmhof" stand in a hilly area above Castel Turmhof; the soil is composed mainly of clay and limestone for a final product with a structured character, and the microclimate is ideal: summers with mild temperatures and cool winters, often affected by snowfall and night frosts. Human intervention in the vineyard is conscientious and kept to a minimum: respect for the natural growth and development phases of the plants and raw material, attention to detail, and rejection of harmful synthetic chemicals. Harvesting is done manually, usually in early November, when botrytis cinerea covers the berries and causes higher juice concentration. Fermented 2 months and aged in small barrels; bottle-aged 2 years.
To the eye, Tiefenbrunner's Gewürztraminer "Turmhof" is a deep golden yellow with bright highlights. The aromas are reminiscent of summer rose petals, ripe yellow-fleshed fruits such as peach and pineapple, and citrusy hints on the finish; on the palate, it is intense, enveloping and structured with a final honey flavour that recalls goblet after goblet. In pairing, it is perfect with savoury white meat dishes with spices, steamed and smoked fish; also interesting with apple strudel. A product to be consumed at romantic dinners in front of a warm fireplace to enjoy authentic and rare flavours.
