GRAVELLO LIBRANDI 2023 DESCRIPTION

The 'Gravello' by Librandi winery represents the encounter between Calabria and France, in particular between Gaglioppo, the region's symbolic variety, and Cabernet Sauvignon, one of the most important and appreciated international grape varieties. This is the estate's flagship label, created in the late 1980s as evidence of the opening of Calabrian oenology towards the international market. The name chosen for this bottle is intended to emphasise its complexity on the one hand and lightness on the other, representing the perfect synthesis of these two opposite attributes.

Librandi 'Gravello' comes from a blend of Gaglioppo (60%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (40%) grapes cultivated on the Arcidiaconato estate, in the countryside of Strongoli, where the soils are particularly rich in clay and limestone. Harvesting takes place during the first ten days of October, followed by the red vinification of the grapes with alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, accompanied by about 15 days of maceration on the skins. Once the fermentation process is complete, the mass is placed to mature for 12 months in Allier oak barriques, followed by at least 6 further months of rest in the bottle before final release.

In the glass, Librandi's 'Gravello' exhibits an intense ruby-red mantle with garnet-red reflections. The olfactory mosaic is composed of vivid aromas of red fruits and berries, such as ripe cherries and blackcurrants, combined with hints of Mediterranean scrub and sensations of tobacco, dried figs and chocolate. The progression on the palate is dry, soft and quite warm, with velvety tannins helping to define the lingering finish along with consistent notes of red fruits and sweet spices.
