SHIRAZ CABERNET 'KOONUNGA HILL 76' PENFOLDS 2021 DESCRIPTION

The Shiraz Cabernet “Koonunga Hill 76” by Penfolds is a label that was born in 2006, with the intention of honoring a wine from the winery, the “Claret”, which had achieved great success in 1976. Thirty years later, it was decided to bring back to life a refined wine, which today stands out with an interesting dimension both on the nose and on the palate, creating a complexity of aromas and flavors that promises to increase its reach over the years. Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon come together in a well-crafted bottle.

The “Koonunga Hill 76” Penfolds is a Shiraz Cabernet that, as one can easily guess, is assembled precisely from these two grape varieties, cultivated in different plots of land located in the Barossa Valley. The grapes are carefully selected during the harvest, and are immediately transferred to the winemaking facilities, where they are destemmed. The must ferments in stainless steel containers, and for the final part of aging, the wine is transferred into oak barrelsboth French and American for 10 months, at the end of which it is ready to be bottled.

The Shiraz Cabernet “Koonunga Hill 76” signed by the renowned Australian winery Penfolds presents itself in the glass with an intense ruby red color, endowed with good concentration. The small forest fruits peek through on the nose, enriched with spicy hints and more chocolatey touches. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, with a tasty sip that envelops the palate with roundness, thanks to a finely polished tannic structure, which embraces the drink gently. It finishes with a good persistence. A red wine from southern Australia, perfect to try when one wants a label that showcases the progress made in recent decades by viticulture in the New World.
