Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio 'Lacrimabianco' Cantine Olivella 2023

The Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio 'Lacrimabianco' Cantine Olivella is a Campania white wine born from a blend of Caprettone and Catalanesca. Fresh and delicate on the palate, the lively and drinkable sip is supported by a pleasant mineral note due to the volcanic soil on which the vines rise. The nose offers delicate notes of white flowers, citrus zest and yellow-fleshed fruit, refreshed by slight hints of aromatic herbs

LACRYMA CHRISTI DEL VESUVIO 'LACRIMABIANCO' CANTINE OLIVELLA 2023 DESCRIPTION

The Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio ‘Lacrimabianco’ from the production company Cantine Olivella represents a label with a fresh and mineral taste produced from a blend of the local grape varieties Caprettone and Catalanesca. The estate is located at the foot of Monte Somma, within the Vesuvius National Park, a territory shaped by the Plinian eruption of 79 A.D. that led to the destruction of the cities of Herculaneum, Pompeii, Stabiae, and Oplontis. Here, the producer Ciro Giordano cultivates 12 hectares of vineyards mainly reserved for the indigenous varieties Catalanesca, Caprettone, and Piedirosso, with the vines being grown on their own roots in sandy black soils and propagated through the technique of layering.

‘Lacrimabianco’ Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio originates from an assembly of the grape varieties Caprettone and Catalanesca, traditional varieties of the Vesuvius area. The vines are rooted in sandy soils of volcanic origin and are cultivated according to the principles of organic farming. After the harvest, the bunches are taken to the winery where they undergo soft pressing, with the must thus obtained fermenting in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature. The subsequent maturation phase takes place always in steel for a few months and the wine is finally bottled and marketed after a further short resting in glass.

To the eye, the Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio Cantine Olivella ‘Lacrimabianco’ expresses a brilliant straw yellow color. On the nose, floral and fruity notes of yellow peach and orange blossom initially emerge, soon joined by slight hints of aromatic herbs and mineral notes. Pleasant is the balance on the palate between softness and fresh-salty component, with a fragrant and pleasantly mineral finish.
