The Lagrein produced by Elena Walch is one of the most typical and traditional wines of the Alto Adige territory. The vineyards have been planted in the hottest and sunniest areas, facing southeast and southwest, on mixed soil, with the presence of limestone and a good percentage of clay and sand. A habitat that allows Lagrein to mature well, with rich clusters and grapes with an intense aromatic profile. The grapes are strictly hand-harvested with careful selection in the vineyard. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at controlled temperature, with maceration on the skins lasting about 10 days. The wine matures for several months in large Slavonian oak barrels ranging from 22 to 70 hectoliters and completes the aging with a few months in bottle before being put on sale.
The Lagrein by Elena Walch is a straightforward and sincere expression of this Alto Adige red grape variety, which manages to convey the strength and vitality of a great terroir in the glass. In the glass, it presents itself with a garnet red color with slight youthful violet hues. On the nose, it expresses spicy notes, shady hints of underbrush and humus, aromas of cherry, small dark berry fruits, plum, and cocoa.
