The Lugana 'Berenice' from the family-run estate Saottini represents an expression of the Lugana territory with a complex and enveloping style, produced in limited quantities. The interregional denomination Lugana, shared between Veneto and Lombardy, includes a rather circumscribed area located south of Lake Garda. The connection between this territory and the vine is ancient, dating back to the Bronze Age, as evidenced by the discovery of grape seeds over three millennia old from Vitis sylvestris, the progenitor species of Vitis vinifera, cultivated worldwide today.
The 'Berenice' Saottini Lugana is a pure Turbiana from vines grown on morainic soils with a predominantly clayey texture. Manual harvesting in crates is followed by gentle pressing of the clusters, with the resulting must being allowed to settle for a short period. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 16°C, through the action of specially inoculated selected yeasts. Subsequently, the wine matures for 12 months on the fine lees in concrete barrels, and after further bottle aging, it is finally ready for release to the market.
The Lugana 'Berenice' from Saottini has a bright straw yellow color with greenish highlights. The aromatic bouquet opens with notes of white pulp fruit and flowers, embellished with hints of citrus zest and engaging mineral undertones. The palate is elegant, rich, and intense, characterized by a velvety body and a persistent finish highlighted by a fresh mineral sensation. Due to its considerable structure, this Lugana pairs well with rich and flavorful dishes, both from the sea and from the land.
