The Malvasia Istriana from the Friulian winery of Pierpaolo Pecorari is a fresh and mineral white wine that well expresses the character of the grape variety and the peculiarities of the production terroir. The clone of Malvasia historically present in the Friulian lands is less aromatic and produces wines that are less soft and rich compared to the more widespread and common Malvasia di Candia. The bouquet of Malvasia Istriana opens with floral notes, aromas of white fruit, citrus hints, and herbal scents. The palate is intense and savory, with ripe fruit and good final freshness.
The Malvasia Istriana Pecorari is one of the most typical and traditional wines of Friuli Venezia Giulia. This ancient grape variety of Greek origin is widespread in almost all Mediterranean countries and on the gravelly lands rich in limestone and minerals of the Mossa area, it has found the conditions to express itself at excellent qualitative levels. The sunny and always breezy climate, thanks to the presence of sea breezes, allows for excellent ripening of the grapes with rich aromas. The vines are cultivated in Guyot, with a density of of 4800 vines per hectare and a low yield of 40 hectoliters/ha. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 19 °C. The wine then ages in steel for a period of 7 months with weekly bâtonnage and finishes aging with a few months in the bottle before being released for sale.
The Malvasia belongs to the Classica line of the Pierpaolo Pecorari winery, which features a series of labels focused mainly on enhancing the best varietal characteristics of the grapes. Vinification only in steel brings to the forefront the characteristic aromas of Malvasia Istriana and the typical mineral notes of the soils of the Isonzo plain. The color is light straw yellow. The olfactory profile is delicate with scents of white flowers, fruity aromas, nuances of wild herbs from the Mediterranean scrub, and iodized memories. The palate is fresh and savory, with a pleasantly juicy fruit and a fresh and mineral finish.
