MARGAUX 2ME CRU CLASSÉ CHATEAU DURFORT VIVENS 2021 DESCRIPTION

The Margaux 2me Cru Classé of Chateau Durfort-Vivens is a red wine of exceptional structure, depth, and elegance, produced by one of the historic Chateaux of the Médoc. In fact, in the official classification of Bordeaux wines of 1855 commissioned by Napoleon III, the name Durfort-Vivens appears among the Deuxièmes Crus, the second level of the quality pyramid, just below the five sacred monsters Lafite, Latour, Mouton-Rotschild, Margaux, and Haut-Brion. In 2013, the entire estate converted to biodynamic agriculture, achieving excellent results.

Chateau Durfort-Vivens Margaux 2me Cru Classé is produced from a solid base of Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by a smaller percentage of Merlot. The vines, cultivated according to the principles of biodynamics, are rooted in soils composed of deep gravel, with sand and clay present. The harvest is carried out separately for the two varieties when the grapes have reached the perfect degree of ripeness, and the grapes are then vinified in red through alcoholic fermentation in wooden vats, concrete vats and terracotta amphorae. The subsequent aging phase lasts for 18 months and takes place for 2/3 of the mass in new oak barriques and for 1/3 in terracotta amphorae. This is followed by blending and final bottling.

In the glass, the 2me Cru Classé Margaux Chateau Durfort-Vivens displays an intense ruby red robe. The elegant and broad olfactory panorama expresses fruity and spicy notes of ripe red fruit, vanilla, and cocoa, enriched by deep sensations of tobacco and licorice. On the palate, it is intense and full-bodied, with dense and perfectly integrated tannins that combine with the pleasant freshness in a persistent finish on the fruity and spicy perceptions of the nose.
