The Mercurey Premier Cru 'En Sazenay' from Pillot Romain & Simon clearly reflects the character of its cru, a historic 'climat' on the 'costa' of Chalon. The vines grow in the heart of Mercurey, on limestone soils bathed in intense sunlight, conditions that produce very concentrated grapes. The wine is aged for over a year in barriques, some of which are new, as per tradition. It is a full-bodied Pinot, in line with the style of southern Burgundy, with complex hints of ripe fruit, Asian spices and vanilla. On the palate, it is fine but structured, with tannins that accompany the long, ample finish
Deep ruby red with violet reflections
Complex with cherry, hints of plum, cardamom and pepper, finishing with undergrowth
Very elegant, a wine with structure and finesse, with noticeable but silky tannins, broad and vertical
