MUNJEBEL ROSSO 'PA' FRANK CORNELISSEN 2020 DESCRIPTION

The Munjebel Rosso “PA” by Frank Cornelissen is a Sicilian wine that originates from the northern slope of Etna. It is produced with pure Nerello Mascalese, the most famous indigenous dark-skinned grape variety of the area. The volcanic soils and the particular climatic conditions of this corner of Sicily contribute to creating a red wine with an elegant face and great expressive finesse. Fruity and floral aromas combine in harmonious synthesis, over the mineral textures of the lava lands of Mongibello.

The Rosso Munjebel “PA” is born in the Solicchiata area, in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia, on the northern slope of Etna. It is in this splendid area that Frank Cornelissen's estate is located. The vineyards consist of many small plots, cultivated at an altitude ranging from 650 to 980 meters above sea level. Parcels with particular characteristics, which are vinified separately, to enhance the peculiarities of each single terroir. The grapes for the “PA” come from a vineyard cultivated in Contrada Feudo di Mezzo, in the Cru Porcaria, at 640 meters altitude on soils rich in sands and clays. The fermentation takes place using only indigenous yeasts and with a maceration on the skins lasting a couple of months. Before bottling, the wine matures for a few months in resin tanks.

The Munjebel Rosso “PA” wine produced by Frank Cornelissen expresses directly and immediately the characteristics and nuances of the Cru Porcaria. It is a straightforward and sincere wine, presented with an intense ruby red color. On the nose, it expresses floral aromas of violet and dried rose petals, delicate aromas of small red berries, underbrush, and light spicy notes. On the palate, it is elegant, subtle, and energetic, with fine tannins and a savory, fresh finish.
