MUSCADET SÈVRE ET MAINE SUR LIE 'LE GRAND CLOS' DOMAINE DU BOURGEAIS 2 DESCRIPTION

Domaine du Bourgeais presents the Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine Sur Lie ‘Le Grand Clos’, a bottle of extraordinary smoothness and verticality. The Melon de Bourgogne is a white grape variety native to Burgundy, from which the name derives, on which the AOC of Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine is based. It was uprooted in Burgundy due to abundant production that penalized quality, while in the Loire it was introduced in 1709 after a particularly cold winter led to the death of numerous vines. Local winemakers then began to cultivate it due to its excellent resistance to low temperatures. To give greater structure, creaminess, and breadth to the wine, many Muscadet are now worked through prolonged contact with the fine lees, being able in this case to boast the designation of sur lie.

The Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine Sur Lie ‘Le Grand Clos’ from Domaine du Bourgeais is a 100% Melon de Bourgogne from 65-year-old vines sustainably grown on sandy soils over a mica schist subsoil. After the the harvest, the grapes are vinified in white through soft pressing, 12 hours of static decantation of the must, and alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Subsequently, the mass matures in steel on the fine lees for 9-12 months until the final bottling.

To the eye, the Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine Domaine du Bourgeais Sur Lie ‘Le Grand Clos’ shows a straw yellow color with golden flashes. Hints of fresh fruit such as pear, pineapple, and peach describe the olfactory landscape along with notes of aromatic herbs and rocky mineral sensations. Light and delicate taste, very fresh and drinkable, with a pleasantly savory and clean finish that prolongs the persistence on the palate.
