The Pigato "Grand-Père" by Bio Vio is an intense and complex white wine that originates in the splendid coastal area of the Riviera Ligure di Ponente, in the first hinterland of Albenga. It is made from the most widely cultivated white grape variety of the area. This is an original version inspired by the most ancient craft traditions of the place, as the wine is vinified with skin maceration and subsequent wood ageing. A choice that gives the wine a remarkable aromatic richness, a good structure and a long, persistent sip.
The "Grand-Père" is a Pigato produced like in old times, made according to past customs but reinterpreted with great oenological skill by one of the most interesting producers in western Liguria. Bio Vio is a family business that has always espoused the culture of organic farming. In addition to producing aromatic herbs, it cultivates classic local grape varieties in their estate. Pigato, in particular, expresses itself in these lands with high quality wines. The vineyards are located in the thin strip of land between the mountains and the sea, in the area of Marixe and Albenga, on soils characterised by marls rich in iron minerals. After the harvest, the grapes are fermented with indigenous yeasts and a long maceration on the skins. The wine matures for 10 months in oak tonneaux before being bottled.
Pigato "Grand-Père" from the Ligurian winery Bio Vio is a macerated version of this historic grape variety from the Riviera di Ponente. In the glass it presents a fascinating golden colour with slight auburn reflections and expresses dense, rich aromas reminiscent of ripe fruit, yellow peach, apricot, pineapple, notes of wild herbs from the Mediterranean maquis, wild flowers, spicy and briny hints. The sip is ample, savoury and satisfying, with rich fruit, well balanced by a fresh and persistent finish. A great white that calls for pairings with important dishes of delicate white meats or semi-mature cheeses.
