The Pinot Nero Riserva “St. Daniel” is an elegant red wine produced in Alto Adige by the Colterenzio winery. The Pinot Nero grape has been present in the region since the 1800s and is one of the international varieties that has found in the areas of Appiano and Cornaiano, the cool and breezy climate and suitable soils to express itself at excellent quality levels. It is a classic version of this elegant red, which captivates especially for its expressive finesse and the delicacy of the aromas. The long aging in wood gives a complex wine, which combines the classic aromas of small berries with interesting evolving notes that enrich its refined aromatic spectrum.
The Pinot Nero Riserva “St. Daniel” is produced by one of the youngest and most dynamic cooperative realities in Alto Adige. The Colterenzio winery is located in Appiano and consists of 300 members who cultivate small plots in the areas of Cornaiano, Colterenzio, Appiano, Salorno, and Bolzano. The vineyards are divided into many small parcels, cultivated at an altitude between250 and 550 meters on soils of various nature. This heterogeneity of pedoclimatic conditions allows each grape variety to be positioned in the most suitable place, so as to always achieve the maximum in terms of grape quality. The goal of the winery is, in fact, to enhance the individual varieties and the production terroirs, to create wines that are a faithful and authentic expression of the best characteristics of the lands of Alto Adige.
The Riserva “St. Daniel” Pinot Nero from the Alto Adige winery Colterenzio comes from vineyards cultivated at 350 meters above sea level, on soils made up of ancient volcanic rocks and glacial moraine deposits. Fermentation takes place with skin maceration at controlled temperature. The wine rests for 12 months in oak barrels of 35 hectoliters and in barriques and finishes the aging period with another 12 months in bottle. The color is bright and luminous garnet red. The bouquet expresses aromas of small red berries, hints of underbrush, spicy and balsamic notes. The taste is elegant and smooth, with a delicately nuanced aromatic mid-palate that extends harmoniously towards a finish characterized by a pleasant freshness.
