François Bergeret's Pommard Premier Cru 'Les Chanlins Bas' is a red wine from one of the legendary villages around Beaune, the heart of the region. For ageing, François prefers old barriques, with only a third of the wood being first-use. The nose is surprisingly dark, with blackberry and morello cherry, then evolves into hints of vanilla and leather, while the palate is struck by tannins, savouriness and balsamic notes. Excellent with venison or aged Beaufort cheese
Deep, intense garnet red
Initial notes of black cherry and plum, followed by vanilla and a hint of undergrowth, finishing with eucalyptus and pepper
Dense mouthfeel, enveloping tannins, fresh and full-bodied with a very savoury finish
