RIBOLLA GIALLA VILLA RUSSIZ 2024 DESCRIPTION

Villa Russiz’s Ribolla Gialla originates from the small patch of land situated on Italy’s easternmost border, in the Collio Goriziano region, bordering Slovenia. This area is considered one of the finest for the production of quality white wines with an unrivalled range of aromas. The winery has a centuries-old tradition: in fact, as early as 1868, Theodor de la Tour Voivrè began cultivating the land surrounding the villa, introducing French grape varieties. Over time, the family has continued to cultivate the vines with passion and expertise, leading to today’s extensive wine production and range of interesting products.

The Ribolla Gialla grapes from Villa Russiz grow on the green hillsides in vineyards planted at around 350 metres above sea level; in this area, the climate is characterised by significant temperature variations between day and night, a factor that ensures excellent ripening of the grapes and brings out their finest qualities. The soil has a varied composition: a mineral sediment known as ‘Flysch’, containing sandstone and a marl layer; notably, the presence of calcium carbonate lends the wines savouriness and aromatic richness. The harvest is carried out by hand; the whole grapes undergo soft pressing and the free-run juice is left to rest in tanks where fermentation takes place for around 8 months; finally, bottling takes place approximately 9 months after the harvest.

Villa Russiz’s Ribolla Gialla has a straw-yellow colour with greenish hues. It releases hints of citrus and acacia with an interesting and unusual bouquet; on the palate, it has a structure that is not overly intrusive, with good freshness and citrus notes. It pairs excellently with fried fish or battered vegetables, but also with elaborate fish main courses; it is also interesting with mature cheeses for an intriguing end to a meal.
