The Rosso della Tenuta del Buonamico is a Tuscan red wine that expresses the most fresh, fruity, and youthful face, produced in the Lucca area from Sangiovese, Canaiolo, and other indigenous and international red grapes. It is the modern and easy-drinking expression of a typical and territorial type with an ancient history, dating back to the Middle Ages. It is said that in 1408 Pope Gregory XII was captivated by it, ordering that the wines produced in the small village of Montecarlo should never be missing from his table.
Tenuta del Buonamico produces its red wine by prioritizing the more immediate and gastronomic qualities of the denomination. The grapes of Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Syrah, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon come from vineyards in the locality of Cercatoia, on hilly soils of medium texture. In the winery, a gentle destemming and a soft pressing are carried out using a state-of-the-art pneumatic press. The use of peristaltic pumps allows for careful and delicate management of the musts and wine, while the steel fermentation at controlled temperature safeguards and enhances the primary aromas of the grapes.
The Rosso Tenuta del Buonamico represents the modern expression of a very ancient type from Tuscany that is now little known. It is characterized by simple and immediate aromas of small red fruits, fresh sour cherries, underbrush, and aromatic herbs. The sip is lean, fresh, fruity, and easy-drinking, marked by a pleasant softness, excellent balance, and good persistence. It can be enjoyed paired with legume soups, flavorful first courses, cold cuts, cured meats, white meats, or even, if served chilled, with seafood dishes, broths, or grilled fish.
