
The “Ruje” is one of the most appreciated labels from the Zidarich winery, produced in limited quantities but with a very high demand for its excellent qualities and its exciting expressiveness. We find ourselves in the heart of the Carso region of Trieste, where Benjamin Zidarich, the owner of the winery, among the plateaus and the sea, has found the perfect place for the production of macerated white wines and great red excellences.
The “Ruje” is born from the careful selection of clusters of Merlot with an addition of 15% of the indigenous Terrano, cultivated on red rock soils free from invasive treatments. Here, 8 rows of vines are driven by the Trieste bora and marine currents. Fermentation and maceration occur naturally in open vats using indigenous yeasts. The wine undergoes long aging in small, medium, and large Slavonian oak barrels for 3 years. In its production process, it is neither filtered nor clarified, showing how Zidarich has a particular attention and great respect for the nature of the place.
The “Ruje” presents itself with a ruby red color, but it does not shine like a precious stone, despite not having a high concentration. The aromatic profile has strength and elegance: mineral traits, hints of berries, notes of truffle and wet earth, and balsamic echoes give energy to the wine. The body is slimmer, but it always maintains its charm and style, giving it balance and harmony. The tannin is well-trained and the acidity fits well between the tasting lines. “Ruje” is one of the most fascinating and truthful expressions of the magnificent land of Carso.
