'SABBIA GIALLA' SAN BIAGIO VECCHIO 2022 DESCRIPTION

"Sabbia Gialla" is the symbolic wine of Cantina San Biagio Vecchio, produced with the most representative white grape variety of the Ravenna territory: Albana. A intense and rich white, vinified in steel with a short maceration on the skins. Albana di Romagna is a grape of ancient and noble origins, said to have been appreciated even by Galla Placidia, the Roman empress daughter of Theodosius. It is a very interesting and versatile grape, suitable for being vinified in white, with skin macerations or even dried to produce dessert wines. Its good aromatic profile, important structure, and a skin rich in polyphenols make it one of the white grape varieties with the most personality.

"Sabbia Gialla" is produced with Albana grapes from a old vineyard over 30 years old, born from a mass selection of ancient clones present in the territory of Colle San Biagio. The vineyards are cultivated using the Guyot method at an altitude of about 200 meters above sea level, with a southeast exposure. The soils are characterized by medium-textured soils, with the presence of the famous yellow sands typical of the territory, which give the wine its name. The harvest is carried out in several passes in the vineyard, to always have only grapes at the perfect degree of ripeness. The harvests are vinified separately and then blended in January, at the end of all fermentations. The vinification takes place in white, with a one-day skin maceration of the must. The wine ages in steel for about 6 months.

The white "Sabbia Gialla" captivates from the first glance with its color of bright golden reflections. It expresses all the richness and seductive taste harmony typical of pure Albana di Romagna. The careful harvesting process gives a wine of great expressive maturity, broad and persistent, an atypical white, suitable for important pairings with flavorful dishes and of a certain structure. The short maceration on the skins gives the bouquet notes of beautiful richness, with aromas of yellow fruit, peach, and apricot, citrus and floral hints, honeyed nuances and memories of medicinal herbs. On the palate, it has a good body, with aromas that unfold deep and persistent on notes of enveloping softness, crossed by a mineral vein and balanced freshness.
