The Santa Maddalena Classico from the Alto Adige winery Muri - Gries presents itself as a fresh and fruity red wine, crafted from a combination of the indigenous grape varieties Schiava and Lagrein. The name Santa Maddalena refers to the homonymous village located above the city of Bolzano and aims to highlight the connection between this wine and the Bolzano territory. In fact, this red represents the Bolzano variant of wines produced with Schiava grapes, and the subzone of Santa Maddalena, part of the larger Südtirol denomination, is one of the most successful expressions of this black grape variety, which must be present in the blend for at least 85% according to regulations.
The Südtirol St. Magdalener Classico Muri - Gries is born from a solid base of Schiava combined with 5% Lagrein grapes, varieties cultivated on the slopes around the basin of Bolzano. In particular, the vineyards' soils consist of sandy and clayey gravel and are located at an altitude of 350-450 meters above sea level, with a southern exposure. After the harvest, the grapes are destemmed in stainless steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature of 26°C, accompanied by 8 days of maceration on the skins. The wine then remains in steel to refine for several months until the final bottling.
Muri - Gries Santa Maddalena Classico is a dark and intense ruby red color with purple hues. On the nose, vivid fruity aromas of ripe cherry, plum, and berries emerge, complemented by floral notes and hints of dark chocolate. Rich, full, and enveloping on the palate, soon balanced by soft tannins and juicy freshness that accompanies the intense fruity finish.
