SAUTERNES 'CASTELNAU' CHATEAU SUDUIRAUT 2022 - 37.5CL DESCRIPTION

Chateau Suduiraut Sauternes 'Castelnau de Suduiraut' is a sweet botrytised wine with a complex and seductive aromatic profile, designed to be enjoyed divinely even when young. Chateau Suduiraut is a historic estate founded in 1580 by Leonard de Suduiraut, and its wines have always been considered among the finest Sauternes available. Castelnau de Suduiraut is not the 'little brother' of Chateau Suduiraut Sauternes Premier Cru Classé, the flagship label of this prestigious Bordeaux winery, but rather a wine with its own unique identity, whose development was decided upstream from the choice of specific vineyard plots.

Chateau Suduiraut's 'Castelnau de Suduiraut' Sauternes is made from a blend of Semillon and a small amount of Sauvignon Blanc, grapes grown about 50 kilometres south of Bordeaux, west of the Garonne River, on soils rich in clay, sand and pebbles. The proximity to waterways, cool nights and morning mists in autumn followed by sunny days provide the ideal conditions for the development of noble rot. This desirable mould is caused by the fungus Botrytis cinerea, which dehydrates the grapes, synthesising distinctive aromas that are the basis of the uniqueness of botrytised wines. The harvest is carried out by hand in several stages in order to pick only those bunches where the mould has developed optimally, excluding those affected by rot. The wine is then aged for about 15 months in barriques, 25% of which are new, and is finally bottled with a high sugar residue.

The Sauternes 'Castelnau de Suduiraut' Chateau Suduiraut is bright golden yellow in colour. The nose reveals intense varietal aromas of candied fruit, honey, caramel and sweet spices, combined with a pleasant citrus note. Warm and enveloping on the palate, with a marked sweetness supported by an excellent savoury-mineral vein in a persistent finish.
