SAUVIGNON 'FLORA' GIRLAN 2023 DESCRIPTION

Girlan's South Tyrolean Sauvignon 'Flora' impresses with the characteristic freshness and mineral component given by the grape variety and terroir. The 'Flora' selection includes white and red wines made with grapes from the best wine-growing areas of Oltradige and Bassa Atesina, with the aim of enhancing the qualities of each grape variety by accentuating its potential and typicality. For the label illustrations, the winery relied on South Tyrolean artist Paul Flora, for whom the selection itself was named.

Girlan Alto Adige Sauvignon 'Flora' is made from only Sauvignon Blanc grapes grown within the subzones of Girlan, Montiggl and Eppan Berg, located at an average altitude of 500 meters above sea level. The soils are diverse in constitution, with variable presence of clay, limestone and gravel depending on the reference plot. Manual harvesting is followed by brief maceration and then whole cluster crushing, with the resulting must left to settle naturally. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks while the subsequent maturation phase takes place in a combination of steel and large oak barrels for 8 months on the fine lees, with no malolactic fermentation taking place.

Sauvignon 'Flora' Alto Adige from the Girlan winery has a pale straw yellow color. The nose is floral and delicately herbaceous, with hints of nettle and elderflower meeting sensations of white-fleshed fruit, citrus, lychee and flint. The palate entry is fresh and mineral, well balanced by the surprisingly structured finish. Citrus and floral returns characterize the long finish.

When to drink
Wine good to drink now, but that can have a beautiful evolution after resting for a while in your cellar
Glass
Medium open goblet
Perfect for young and medium bodied white wines which don't require excessive oxygenation to open. The opening, slightly tighter than the body of the glass, favors the concentration of aromas towards the nose, enhancing the perception of aromas and limiting the dispersion
Longevity
You can let it rest in the cellar comfortably for 2-3 years
