The Sauvignon “Piere” is one of the most famous and appreciated labels from the Friulian winery le Vie di Romans. The renowned semi-aromatic French grape variety is among the international ones that best expresses itself in the Friulian lands and is certainly one of the most loved for its characteristic scents and aromas. The climate with Mediterranean nuances, mild and breezy, allows the Sauvignon to mature perfectly and to offer a white wine of great drinking pleasure, intense and broad. Its authentic territorial connotation is one of the strengths that enhances its typicity.
The white Sauvignon “Piere” is the result of a bet that the Cantina Vie di Romans wanted to make on the Friulian territory of the Isonzo, highlighting its vocation for the cultivation of both native and international varieties historically present in the region. The grapes come from the Piere vineyard, which is located in the Isonzo Rive Alte area, within the municipality of Mariano del Friuli. The Sauvignon Blanc vines are about fifteen years old and were planted with clones Italian spargolo cluster. The parcel has an area of about 12 hectares and is located at an altitude of 33 meters above sea level, with a north-south exposure and soils composed of silty clays, conglomerates, and abundant skeleton. Harvest takes place towards the end of August, and the best clusters undergo a cold maceration for a few hours. This is followed by low-temperature fermentation with selected yeasts, lasting about twenty days. The wine ages in steel tanks on its own yeasts for nine months and completes its refinement with ten months in the bottle.
The Sauvignon “Piere” Vie di Romans is a label that very well illustrates the personality of the Isonzo area, with wines that are aromatically very ripe and rich, accompanied by a clear freshness. In the glass, it presents itself with a straw-yellow color with slight greenish reflections. The elegant varietal richness of the grape variety expresses itself with aromas of white flowers, citrus zest, yellow fruit, peach, pineapple, exotic fruit, gooseberry, hints of medicinal herbs. On the palate, it is long, rich and complex, with a fresh and harmonious finish. It is a white wine particularly suitable for pairing with shellfish, fish in sauce, asparagus, or delicate white meats.
