SAUVIGNON 'PRAESULIS' GUMPHOF 2023 DESCRIPTION

The Sauvignon “Praesulis” by Gumphof is a white wine that embodies delicacy and intensity. It captivates with its fine and elegant traits and convinces with its intense and characterful personality. The Gumphof winery is located in the area south of the Isarco Valley, at the foot of the Sciliar massif. The experience and sensitivity of the winemaker, Markus Prackwiese, combine with the peculiar terroir conditions that define the area. Here, in fact, the soils are of morainic limestone origin and are enriched by the presence of quartz porphyry from Bolzano. The climatic conditions and temperature variations are also particular and relevant, a consequence of the alternation of a daytime breeze known as the Ora del Garda and a nighttime breeze coming from the Dolomites. The reality of the farm, equipped with a cellar carved into the rock, drives the winemaker to care for the vineyard down to the smallest detail, performing manual agronomic operations and facing the impressive slopes of these rugged and steep territories.

“Praesulis” Sauvignon by Gumphof is obtained from only Sauvignon grapes, coming from vineyards located at an altitude between 400 and 550 meters above sea level. The grapes are harvested and transported to the winery, where they undergo a gentle pressing and a short cold maceration. Fermentation takes place for 2/3 in steel containers and for the remaining 1/3 in tonneau. The aging phase completes the maturation of the wine with 8 months in steel and 6 months in tonneau.

Gumphof Sauvignon “Praesulis” has a bright straw-yellow color. The aroma is articulated in fruity notes, of white fruit and citrus, and vegetal, with evident traces of aromatic herbs. Elegance ties the nose and taste together. The sip showcases a beautiful balance between freshness, sapidity, and softness. It is a juicy wine with a long citrus persistence: the signature of South Tyrolean precision to the expansive character of Sauvignon.
