The La Perla winery introduces Sforzato di Valtellina 'Quattro Soli,' a structured and refined label that well embodies the characteristics of the appellation without being tiring, however, but rather preserving a remarkable pleasantness and dynamic drinking experience. This red is elaborated from the slightly early harvest of Nebbiolo, aimed at preserving its natural acidity, which is important to balance the alcoholic, glyceric and tannic concentration of the finished wine. With the expression "Four Suns", Marco Triacca, owner of the winery, wanted to pay tribute to his four grandchildren, now eight.
La Perla winery's Sforzato di Valtellina 'Quattro Soli' is made from only Nebbiolo grapes, grown on impervious terraces carved from sandy, silty soils of morainic origin. Harvesting is done by hand slightly in advance, using crates of only 5 kilos in order to safeguard the full integrity of the berries. Once transferred to the winery, the clusters are placed to dry in the fruit cellar for about 3 months, during which time they lose about 30 percent of water while concentrating all other substances. Once the drying process is over, the grapes are crushed and destemmed, followed by fermentation at a controlled temperature, with about a month of maceration on the skins and complete malolactic fermentation. The subsequent maturation phase takes place for 36 months in oak barrels, followed by at least 18 months of bottle aging.
La Perla's 'Quattro Soli' Sforzato di Valtellina is deep ruby red in color. The olfactory range is intense and articulate, dominated by notes of red fruits that are accompanied by hints of sweet spices. The sip is elegant, broad and balanced, with excellent persistence and taste-olfactory correspondence.
