SPUMANTE METODO CLASSICO BRUT GRAN CUVÉE STORICA 'GIORGI 1870' GIORGI DESCRIPTION

The Spumante Metodo Classico Brut Gran Cuvée Storica 'Giorgi 1870' represents afull but balanced expression of Pinot Nero dell'Oltrepò Pavese, dedicated to the year of foundation of the Giorgi winery, 1870 in fact. At the time, the Giorgi family produced wine for the people of the neighbouring villages, directly managing the entire production cycle, from grape cultivation to vinification. The turning point came a century later, in 1970 to be exact, when brothers Gianfranco and Antonio built a second, technologically advanced winery in Canneto Pavese, which is still the headquarters of the business today.

'Giorgi 1870' Spumante Metodo Classico Brut Gran Cuvée Storica is made from pure Pinot Nero grapes grown in the Oltrepò Pavese area, specifically in the municipalities of Montecalvo Versiggia, Santa Maria della Versa and Rocca de' Giorgi. The rows of vines are located at an altitude between 250 and 400 metres above sea level and lie on soils rich in limestone and clay. Following manual harvesting, the grapes are softly pressed, with only the free-run must undergoing alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature of 18 °C in stainless steel tanks. In the spring following the harvest, bottle fermentation according to the Metodo Classico is then carried out, with at least 36 months of ageing on the lees before disgorging. The final dosage is 7 g/l residual sugar, in the Brut order.

The Metodo Classico Spumante 'Giorgi 1870' Brut Gran Cuvée from the Giorgi winery has a straw yellow colour tending towards golden with persistent bubbles. The nose offers inviting hints of fresh fruit, citrus fruits and aromatic herbs, together with hints of dried fruit and nuances of bread crust given by the prolonged sojourn on the lees. Rich and of excellent freshness the taste development, characterised by a fine, creamy and abundant bubble that accompanies the persistent finish.
