SPUMANTE METODO CLASSICO ROSÈ BRUT 'LEONIA' FRESCOBALDI 2020 DESCRIPTION

The “Leonia” is a Spumante Rosé Metodo Classico that Frescobaldi dedicates to her great-great-grandmother. She was a
stubborn and courageous woman, who first brought French grape varieties to Pomino, the estate's castle
nestled like a gem in the woods that surround the north-east of Florence. The grapes are vinified
in their own cellar without the aid of special machinery, using only gravity for the various stages of
production. Leonia also earned the gold medal at the Paris expo of 1878. Today, the spirit lives on in
this evocative label of an era and a world that is strict yet generous towards successes.

Through the Rosé Brut “Leonia”, the historic winery Frescobaldi aims to make its mark in the quality Metodo Classico sparkling wine productions. Hand-harvested with care, the grapes are gently pressed,
leaving only a minimal hint of anthocyanins in the must. The cold clarification for twelve
hours ensures the highest degree of clarity and subsequent fermentation: part in wood,
the other part at controlled temperature in steel tanks. The wines are then blended in March,
when the sparkling process is carried out: the aging on the lees in the bottle will be extended for the
next 36 months. A few months of rest after disgorgement will conclude the wait and give the green light to
commercialization.

Lamberto Frescobaldi describes his Rosé Brut “Leonia” label with these words: “a wine that expresses
the desire to embark on new paths, courageous and determined, with an expressive and elegant character
like my great-great-grandmother.” The tribute is decidedly focused, starting from the appearance, bright in its
coppery hues, sparkling with a fine and persistent perlage. The characteristic aromas of the Metodo
Classico, the crust of bread and the fermentation, emerge later, accompanied by intriguing spicy notes.
Instead, the dance is opened by crunchy small red fruits, the citrus of pink grapefruit and a breath
of floral from hawthorn.A balance of aromas that we find on the palate, pleasantly creamy in its
fine effervescence, dry in the mineral note and tasty with sweeter notes, leading to a long cherry finish.
This is a versatile sparkling wine, suitable for a celebratory toast for worthy events, to a full meal, even
with dishes of certain complexity. Try it with seafood dishes, to celebrate its French essence; and with grilled
meats, for its Florentine character.
