VERDICCHIO DEI CASTELLI DI JESI SUPERIORE 'YLICE' PODERI MATTIOLI 2023 DESCRIPTION

‘Ylice’ Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore is a lively interpretation of the denomination, the result of the dedication of the Mattioli family of Poderi Mattioli. The name ‘Ylice’ comes from the name of an ancient villa that around the 12th century stood near the estate, known at the time as “il castellare de Ylice”. Presumably, the term “ylice” comes from the Latin “ilex”, which means “holm oak”, a type of oak particularly widespread in the area of Serra de’ Conti where the estate is located.

Poderi Mattioli Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore ‘Ylice’ is a 100% Verdicchio sustainably grown within the La Spina vineyard, an old plot planted on sandy soils next to a lush grove of oaks. The vineyard's exposure is south/southeast while the altitude is 350 meters above sea level. The harvest is carried out entirely by hand, with half of the grapes picked in slightly early while the remaining half at full ripeness.anticipated while the remaining half is fully ripe. In the winery, the grapes undergo a gentle pressing, with a small percentage of grapes undergoing a cold pre-fermentative skin maceration. At this point, only the free-run must undergoes alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, without malolactic fermentation. After 6-8 months of aging in steel on fine lees, during which frequent bâtonnage is performed, the wine is finally bottled.

The Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore Poderi Mattioli ‘Ylice’ is straw yellow with distinct greenish reflections. The aromatic bouquet, intensely floral, expresses captivating aromas of acacia, yellow rose, peach, and almond. A complex, elegant, and enveloping sip, with lively freshness that combines with a pleasantly savory finish.

When to open
To enjoy an artisanal wine at its best, we recommend you to let it 'breathe' at least 15-30 minutes before serving
When to drink
Wine good to drink now, but that can have a beautiful evolution after resting for a while in your cellar
Glass
Medium open goblet
Perfect for young and medium bodied white wines which don't require excessive oxygenation to open. The opening, slightly tighter than the body of the glass, favors the concentration of aromas towards the nose, enhancing the perception of aromas and limiting the dispersion
Longevity
You can let it rest in the cellar comfortably for 2-3 years
