VERNACCIA DI SAN GIMIGNANO 'CASANUOVA' FONTALEONI 2023 DESCRIPTION

Fontaleoni's Vernaccia di San Gimignano "Casanuova" is a harmonious white with good intensity and aromatic richness, which, thanks to ageing in wood, combines complexity and freshness. Its ripe and fragrant fruit gives immediate pleasure, but the wine can also be kept for several years in the cellar without fear. Despite the fact that it represents a small production, it is one of the historic whites of our peninsula, which has always been recognized among the absolute best. Its characteristics of structure and depth of aromas make it ideal to accompany seafood dishes, even important ones, or white meats with a delicate taste.

"Casanuova" is a Vernaccia di San Gimignano from the Fontaleoni winery that comes from an estate of about 50 hectares, thirty of which are dedicated to viticulture and managed under organic farming. The label is the fruit of grapes from the Casanuova vineyard, which is considered a true cru for the consistent and excellent quality of its production. The parcel is located at an altitude of about 180 meters above sea level and is characterized by soils composed of tuff and clay, which are particularly suited. The Vernaccia di San Gimignano and Chardonnay vines are about 30 years old, and harvesting is done manually at full maturity. The best bunches are pressed very softly and must ferment in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The wine matures for 6 months in large French oak barrels in contact with the fine lees in order to enrich its aromas and structure; after filtration and clarification, it is bottled and rests another 6 months in the cellar before release.

The white Vernaccia di San Gimignano "Casanuova", produced by the Fontaleoni estate, is a wine of great character, confirming the value of this indigenous Tuscan grape variety, which has been able to make its place and stand out in a region traditionally dominated by red grapes and in particular by Sangiovese. It is a beautiful bright straw yellow and, on the nose, expresses intense aromas of white-fleshed fruit, apple, and peach, fragrances of ripe citrus and nuances of white flowers. With good structure and aromatic richness, it has an intense and persistent sip, closing on fresh and pleasantly savoury notes.

When to drink
Wine good to drink now, but that can have a beautiful evolution after resting for a while in your cellar
Glass
Medium open goblet
Perfect for young and medium bodied white wines which don't require excessive oxygenation to open. The opening, slightly tighter than the body of the glass, favors the concentration of aromas towards the nose, enhancing the perception of aromas and limiting the dispersion
